Ron Powers called the meeting to order and welcomed those in
attendance.
Mike Harvey made a motion to approve the minutes of the December 1, 2004 meeting. Darla Tucker second. Motion
carried.
Conference Call
Neal Kilgore, DCR Watershed Manager in the Abingdon Office and a
member of the Upper TN River Roundtable joined the group by conference
call.
- Neal informed the group of Senate Bill 523 if
passed will be significant to Roundtables to provide a mechanism for
funding.
- Will be sending a copy of the Upper TN and Big Sandy Roundtable 501c3 paperwork for the
group to review. This may aid in
the process of the NRR 501c3 applying for this status.
- Will contact Dr. Davis and Don Gowan about
speaking at the January 22 conference.
- Discussed the procedures the Upper TN River
Roundtable used to secure their Board of Directors. They provided individual training
(Director Orientation) for each member and a handbook for reference.
- Discussed
the Environment Va Conference to be held at VMI on April 10.
Focus Group Reports
The Forestry Focus Group met
on December 15, 2004. The group discussed the following:
- Discussed hosting a Spring Quail Workshop in the
Skyline SWCD area in March.
Consensus of the group was to approve hosting the workshop.
- Composed a Riparian Forest Buffer Tax Credit
worksheet. Rick Roth made a motion to accept. Patrick Burton second.
Motion carried. Will be
publishing in newspapers in the near future.
- In the process of writing an article on tree
planting. When complete Kelly Miller will email to group for approval.
- Comments from the SWCD survey passed out at the
2004 Area IV meeting will be compiled into a powerpoint presentation and
given at the 2005 Area IV meeting.
- Upper TN River Roundtable will be sponsoring a Grant
Writing Workshop on January 20. Kelly Miller and Darla Tucker may attend.
New
River Land Trust
Landowner Meeting will be
held, Tuesday, January 11th, from 7-9 p.m. in the Historic 1908 Grayson County Courthouse on U.S. 58. Suggestion
was made for NRR to hand out information at the meeting.
January 22 Conference
- Reviewed agenda.
- Discussed the invitation list. Who will be attending? How will
decisions be made on who will serve?
- Discussed covering positions that no one shows up
for. Steering Committee and Board
of Directors will work together to find representative.
- Kelly Miller will make sign-up sheets for groups of those who
will be serving and those who participated in each group.
- Discussed on where agency members will
stand. Decision was made for them
to be on a technical advisory committee.
- Steering Committee agreed to stay with Board for
1 year as the executive committee.
After the Board begins to function on their own, we will phase out.
- Decided to wait until new Board of Directors gets
familiar with the functions of the Roundtable then let them sign the
Articles of Incorporation.
- Decided to hold a meeting on January 11 to
finalize the January 22 conference.
New River Community Foundation Grant
Final report will be reviewed
at next weeks meeting. Kelly will email
copies for review.
The next meeting will be January 22, 2005 at the NRV Planning District Commission at 8:45 AM.
